The
Original Petition - November 2004
The Olympia Souvlaki Pizza and Pasta Restaurant (the" Olympia")
is a neighborhood restaurant located at 998 Denman Street in Vancouver.
It has been in business for 25 years.
The COC has demanded that the Olympia discontinue their use of Olympic
rings, flame, and torch designs. This would result in great expenses
to this small business establishment, which has used these designs in
their advertising, signs, and menus for many, many years. Somehow, the
COC believes their continued use of these designs will impede the success
of the marketing programs for the 2010 winter games, and the public
will be led to believe that the Olympia's services have been endorsed
by the COC or are somehow connected to the 2010 winter games.
We, the undersigned, are writing to voice our strong opposition to these
demands. It is hard to imagine how the marketing programs for the 2010
Olympics will be jeopardized, or the public misled, by the continued
use of these designs by a small business struggling to stay afloat in
a competitive market. We also point out that the service provided by
the Olympia is exemplary, and that the owners consistently give back
to the community. Those of us who supported the 2010 Olympics certainly
never envisioned that this support would jeopardize a small community
business such as the Olympia.
We call upon the COC to rescind these demands and not jeopardize the
Olympia's interests because of some unlikely effect of their continued
use of these designs on the success of OUR Olympics.
